Data Model:
Data model is an essential and common ingredient in building data marts, data warehouses and data integration jobs. It is a structural foundation represented as well defined
graphical characterization of a database system (Source: Wikipedia).
Three relevant types of data model are:
- Conceptual data model: abstract (high level) definition of data elements and their relationships
- Logical data model: abstract (with some structure) of semantic information organized in terms of domain entities, their attributes, and relationships between them
- Physical data model: lower level detailed structure, derived from a logical data model that incorporates tables, columns, data types, keys, constraints, etc...
Data Modeling tool:
For data mart project, data modeling tool would be utilized to develop dimensional models. IDERA, erWin and Toad are currently the tools that are being compared here.
Talend does not have a data modeling feature in its product offering. Talend Data Catalog seem to have the ability where models can be obtained through reverse engineering
