Overview

Discoverer has a long history of providing operational reporting to UMS employees in finance, human resources, and student records; however, Discoverer is no longer being upgraded by Oracle, and support for the product has ended. The Discoverer Migration Project was launched to migrate users away from Discoverer. 

Many reports that exist in Discoverer need to be recreated in other reporting tools (PS Query or a new BI tool) so that users across the UMS can retain access to the data and reports that they need for various job functions. This project is not envisioned as an enhancement, but rather as an essential continuation of service.

In some instances, the project may serve an enhancing role; namely, if a needed report is more analytical than operational in nature, the report may be identified as better suited for a new reporting tool. The project also aims to develop a more comprehensive understanding of reporting needs across the University of Maine System.
