DARTS : IPEDS Distance Ed Report (Prior to Fall 2021)

Report Purpose

This report returns distance education information based on IPEDS requirements for terms prior to Fall 2021. It returns distance education enrollment details by term for all institutions, excluding onsite enrollment. It details whether the student is enrolled in some, or exclusively, distance ed classes, as well as if they are located in Maine, in the US, or outside the US.

Please note: if running for a term prior to 1810, results on student residency may differ from the results that were previously run and reported to IPEDS because earlier versions of this report pulled student address on the day the report was run. During the summer of 2017, the report was reconfigured to pull student address as of census date to eliminate this discrepancy, starting with the 1810 report (please note, discrepancies may still occur if users change history on students' address effective dating).

The SQR process creates a couple of files.

1. Total summary data with .CSV file format provides headcount by degree/ non-degree and undergraduate/ graduate for these categories below for one institution:

   Enrolled Exclusively in Distance Education Classes

   Enrolled in Some but not all Distance Education Classes

   Total Enrolled in Any Distance Education Classes

   Not Enrolled in Any Distance Education Classes

   Total Enrollment

   It also provides those categories for students those who enrolled exclusively in distance education classes by

   Number Located in Maine

   Number Located in US but not in Maine

   Number Located in US but State not Known

   Number Located Outside US

   Total Enrolled Exclusively in Distance Education Classes

   The name of file is "UMIPEDDE_UMSxx_TOTALS_xxxx(term code).CSV".

   
   

2. The PDF file provides the same data as on #1 above, but it contains data for all institution.

   The name of file is "umipedde_xxxxxxx(Process number).PDF".
   
   

3. The detail data with .CSV file format provides each student's data with these fields:

   Institution

   Emplid

   Undergrad/Grad

   Degree/Non-Degree

   Calculated Country

   Calculated State

   Distance Ed Indicator

   The name of file is "UMIPEDDE_UMSxx_DETAILS_xxxx(term code).CSV".
