The contents below are for Report Authors.

Dataset:

IT Base Dataset

  • Maintained by IT/ DSIT members (Please do NOT change the file.)
  • Use this base dataset where possible
  • Add frequently used columns and measures
  • Once the dataset changes, all connected reports will be changed.

Cloned and Altered Dataset

  • Limit the number of cloned dataset
  • Initial gateway connection has to be set up by DSIT

Report:

  • Report file is connected to a dataset on Power BI Service
  • Can add measures on the report file (Columns should be added to the dataset file)


Updating Existing Report Process:

  1. Download Report file from SharePoint HUB Library (It will open with Power BI Desktop.)
  2. Modify the report such as:
    1. Add/delete Slicer(s)
    2. Add/delete Field(s)
    3. Add/delete visual(s)
    4. Add a new measure
    5. Modify existing measure which was created on the report (DAX will show up if the measure was created on the report file.)
    6. If new column will be needed, go to the dataset.
  3. Save the file with the same name in the same location in SharePoint HUB Library
  4. Publish the report to the appropriate workspace (usually FN-UMS08-Accounting). It will ask you to replace the existing report.
  5. Go to the workspace and check the report

Creating a New Report:

  1. Open template file from SharePoint HUB Library
  2. Save the file as different name in the SharePoint HUB Library
  3. Change title, tab name, and add information on "info" tab
  4. Crate a report
  5. Save the file in the SharePoint HUB Library
  6. Publish the report to the appropriate workspace (usually FN-UMS08-Accounting)
